Why Joe Cole and Alberto Aquilani Must Leave Liverpool This Summer

The reasons are pretty clear. I’m not rooting against them if they do stay at LFC—I hope they can make a strong impact in the starting XI rotation. I’m just saying that it’s improbable given their history, so I want them out because their wages are too high. Fully explained in the video.

EDITORS NOTE: I say that Aquilani didn’t play much for AC Milan last season due to injury. I was incorrect. He didn’t play because a clause in his contract limited his appearances. Regardless, my point about him being injury-prone still holds true.

I actually advocated for Aquilani’s departure last summer using the same reasons. Has he done anything on the field to counteract my argument? NO! Video from the summer of 2011:

  1. Morning all, just thought id leave a quick comment on this post about why I think aquilani and cole should stay at LFC, firstly I know everybody’s argument on why they should go is because of how much they earn, granted this is a huge amount of money but answer me this, if they go how much realistically will we receive for the pair and also with that money who would you bring in and how much salary will they be offered???

The reason I think they should stay is this, firstly on joe cole, his anfield career didn’t get off to the best of starts with a red card against arsenal second the man who brought him to club was a dead man walking and the man who replaced him didnt give him a chance. Joe cole is currently the type of player Liverpool fc need, he’s younger than Gerarrd and if you listen to him talk he wants to prove he isn’t a failure or a flop, tell me what player will come in to LFC with this hunger an attitude to succeed??? In this current transitional period the club is in we need players like cole with vast experience in the premier league and with the “I will prove you all wrong attitude” regardless of how much he earns, thast not his fault we agreed to that figure I just think if he goes we will have to spend £8-10m on a decent enough replacement then pay his wages on top of that. And who out there with joes experience could Liverpool actually get??????

Second player is Alberto aquilani, I fully understand everyone’s argument on why he should go and have also thought the same myself, but from a different point of view I look at it this way, unlike joe cole he has hardly any premier league experience, why that is we don’t know we don’t see what happens in training, rafa brought him to the club for a huge sum of money an things just haven’t worked out well, wether that be down to his attitude or the fact he can’t settle in uk we don’t know, but I think aquilani is the type of player who needs an arm round him like Torres does at Chelsea, rather than sell him for £3-5m then spend double that amount I think while he’s back at anfield try a different approach to man management with him, when he has played for us he hasnt done that bad to be fair, he scored 1 or 2 and also grabbed a couple of assists aswell, I just think keeping hold of these 2 players makes sense given where the club currently stand both on and off the field.

Just my opinion folks do don’t kill me if you don’t agree haha.

    1. I think we’ve been waiting for Joe Cole to prove himself for the better half of the last decade. I’m done waiting. And he’s only a year younger than Gerrard, but accomplished MUCH less.

      We won’t kill ya! YNWA.

  2. Joe cole is 2 years younger than stevie and correct me if I’m wrong but accomplished much less??? I think joe cole has achieved at lot in his career intertoto with west ham 3 premier leagues 3 fa cups 2 league cups and 2 community shields, it’s hardly much less then Gerarrd, I think of you asked Gerarrd he’d swap all his medals for 1 of joe Coles leagues, also anyone who says Colesegs have gone hasn’t got a clue about football he played 31 times for lille last season, all am sayin is there is no player out there with the experience and knowledge of the premier league we could get and cost us less than what’s left on Coles contract, I honestly believe joe cole will be influential this year for Liverpool.

  3. Just a quick note, you say you’ve been waitin for cole to deliver the past decade?? Have you been watchin the same joe cole??? I’m sorry but that’s the worst thing I have ever heard during his Chelsea career alone he paled over 180 games scoring 28 and creating 29 he’s hardly not delivered has he?? This is where I think your knowledge of the premier league is limited some what, ask any football fan and they will tell you joe cole has been a great player through his career and will prove his worth if and when he gets a real chance at LFC
